Construct Allied Support for F-22 Weather Shelters

This project involved the design and construction of ten (10) new permanent aircraft weather shelters to support the operational beddown of thirty (30) F-22 aircraft assigned to the 1st Fighter Wing.
Work included full architectural and engineering design services followed by construction of structural steel aircraft shelters configured to match the size, appearance, and functional layout of existing shelters on the installation. Each shelter incorporated structural steel framing and standing seam roofing systems designed to provide weather protection for aircraft operations while maintaining compatibility with the existing shelter rows.

Construction activities included installation of new reinforced concrete foundations and structural supports, modification and removal of existing concrete pavement where required, and installation of expansion joints to integrate the new shelters with existing structures while maintaining independent structural systems. The shelters were designed with approximately 70-foot clear spans between structural beams to accommodate aircraft positioning and flightline maneuverability.

The project included installation of lightning protection systems and underground grounding electrode systems around the perimeter of each shelter structure. Electrical work included installation of power receptacles, communications infrastructure, and LED lighting systems, along with additional obstruction lighting on both new and previously constructed shelters to support flightline safety and operations.

Additional scope included installation of gutters and downspouts directing drainage to existing airfield drainage structures, application of protective coatings and painting of all structural steel components, installation of reflective safety markings on structural columns, and alphanumeric identification markings for each shelter.

All work was executed within an active flightline environment, requiring strict coordination with installation operations, airfield safety protocols, and security requirements associated with aircraft maintenance and flightline access.
