This project involved the construction of a new 5,800-square-foot addition to Building 55 (B55), the existing KC-46A Aircraft Maintenance Facility, at MacDill AFB to support two KC-46A flying squadrons by expanding the installation’s administrative workspace and Consolidated Tool Kit (CTK) capabilities. The project included construction of a 3,800-square-foot administrative/office addition containing offices, break room, restrooms, communications room, and mechanical room, as well as a 2,000-square-foot Consolidated Tool Kit (CTK) addition with an adjacent fire pump room beneath an existing canopy. New construction was designed to seamlessly match the existing facility through compatible building heights, exterior materials, and architectural transitions while maintaining full operational functionality of the active aircraft maintenance complex.
Construction included reinforced concrete foundations and floor slabs, structural steel framing, split-face CMU and masonry exterior wall systems, low-slope roofing, doors, windows, architectural finishes, and complete integration of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and communications systems with the existing facility. Work included expansion of the existing HVAC system, installation of additional electrical distribution equipment and lighting, fire protection system expansion, building commissioning, and all associated testing.
Site development included installation of new utility infrastructure, coordination of Florida Governmental Utility Authority (FGUA) water, fire water, and sanitary sewer improvements, relocation of an existing privatized 6-inch water main serving the flightline, modification of an off-site stormwater detention pond, grading, drainage improvements, and all associated civil work necessary to support the facility expansion. Construction also required extensive environmental compliance under the MacDill Environmental Restoration Program, including implementation of contaminated media procedures governing PFAS-impacted soils, sediments, and groundwater through containment, sampling, monitoring, dewatering, and disposal coordination. Throughout construction, SCC successfully coordinated commissioning activities, temporary utility services, environmental monitoring requirements, and multiple contract modifications while maintaining uninterrupted installation operations and delivering a complete, fully integrated facility supporting the KC-46A mission.
